Sarah Gopaul fell in love with movies early in life, captivated the moment 12 Angry Men opened her pre-teen eyes to the power of cinema. Rather than stepping behind the camera, she found her voice through writing. She honed her skills with degrees in Journalism and Film Studies, cultivating an ever‑developing critical voice.

With nearly two decades of experience — including roles as Editor-in-Chief of Popjournalism and Film Editor at Digital Journal — Sarah has long shared her insights on movies and home entertainment. Her criticism centres on narrative clarity, character depth and thematic purpose, approaching every film with curiosity, fairness and a willingness to challenge consensus.

Now a freelance critic and featured contributor at That Shelf, she remains dedicated to telling you what’s worth seeing (and what’s not!). She covers everything from blockbusters to indie gems, though horror remains her first love — a passion that launched her Funko Pop collection in 2015 and eventually led to her induction into the Funko Hall of Fame in 2022.

Sarah is a Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer-approved critic, Golden Globe voter, and member of the Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA) and Online Film Critics Society (OFCS).

When she’s not immersed in a dark theatre or spooky film, Sarah’s probably rock climbing or braving the crowds at fan conventions like San Diego Comic-Con.
