ECCC 2019: Funko Unveils Incredible Collectible Lineup for Emerald City Comic Con

A look at Funko’s exclusive ECCC 2019 collectibles

This week is Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC). Running Thursday, March 14 to Sunday, March 17 in Seattle, Washington, it’s the largest comic and pop culture show in the Pacific Northwest. It’s the first major convention of the year and will likely surpass six-digit attendance numbers this year. Washington also happens to be the home of Funko.

Unsurprisingly, the Funko marketing crew is psyched to promote the brand locally. In addition to the now traditional live-recording of the Funko Funkast podcast at the con, they’re using the home advantage to host a kickoff party at the Funko headquarters in Everett, WA on the Wednesday before the con begins. Both events promise fun opportunities to interact with the Funko team, who are essentially the face of the company alongside CEO Brian Mariotti, as well as awesome prizes. The company’s motto states, “Come for the toys, stay for the people,” so what are this year’s exclusive ECCC collectibles?

It feels like only yesterday Doctor Who celebrated its 50th anniversary, but a lifetime since season nine concluded in December 2015. Now the show is in a new phase of transition as both the 12th Doctor, Peter Capaldi, and long-time showrunner Steven Moffat have announced the 10th season will be their last. The April 15th premiere is a little more than a month away and BBC America is ramping up its promotional campaign with the release of a one-minute official trailer.

  • Teaser for stop-motion film ‘Early Man’ good for a laugh (Includes first-hand account)

Aardman Animations isn’t exactly a household name, but their characters are certainly well-known. Shaun the Sheep has amused the young and young at heart for about a decade, while Wallace and Gromit have entertained audiences for approximately twice that time. Their stop-motion clay animation characters are somewhat unusual looking and some of them don’t even speak, but that is all a part of their charm. Each has starred in their own feature films, but Aardman has made a number of unrelated features showcasing one-of-a-kind personalities. Their latest original film is called Early Man.

  • ‘Star Wars’ announces new title, release date and director

Shortly after the release of the latest Godzilla movie in May 2014, the blockbuster film’s director, Gareth Edwards, was recruited by Disney to head one of the Star Wars spinoff pictures. It’s rumoured they will be a sequence of origin stories released between the new trilogy with Boba Fett, Yoda and Han Solo being primary candidates for the tales. But since that announcement 10 months ago, little else has been revealed about the film until today.

  • Review: The portable charger for juicing your devices (Includes first-hand account)

It’s con/festival/camping/theme park season, which means it’s time to talk about portable chargers. While most modern phones can easily hold a charge for a full day, that may not be enough during these events. Throughout a festival or trip to a theme park, you may find yourself browsing or uploading to social media more frequently or playing Candy Crush as you wait for lines to let in to the attraction (or bathroom). While camping, your outlet access may be limited and watching downloaded content from Netflix or reading an e-book during your much deserved downtime is going to be draining on your battery. Of course, if you’re a hardcore convention goer, it could be more than 24 hours before you even see your expensive hotel room again and shoddy reception, picture-taking, video recording and minimizing the boredom of endless queues means you’re definitely going to need a boost before you have access to an outlet — because who really wants to be tied to that one spot on the wall with a plug when their battery finally reaches critical.

  • We really want to trust the ‘Justice League’ trailer (Includes first-hand account)

With DC and Warner Bros. establishing a solid foothold in the comic book/superhero market, it was only a matter of time before they would release an Avengers-style team-up. Promotion for Zack Snyder‘s upcoming Justice League movie has been ramping up over the last week with new teasers and posters, but the big announcement was the first full-length trailer. With two-and-a-half minutes of footage, fans definitely have a better idea of what to expect from the November release.
