Master of horror John Carpenter producing new supernatural anthology
Upcoming horror television series builds on film icon’s reputation, exploring hidden fears and social anxieties.
Canadian distributor Elevation Pictures is expanding into television thanks to a new deal with genre filmmaker John Carpenter. The iconic director, whose films include Halloween (1978), Escape from New York (1981) and The Thing (1982), is lending his name to a fresh horror anthology called John Carpenter Presents.
Michael Amo (Pure, The Listener) and Will Pascoe (Orphan Black, Absentia) are creating and showrunning the new series. Notably, the original story channels Carpenter’s signature storytelling, renowned visual style and legendary musical sensibility.
Season one is set in the remote wilderness of Alaska. There, a diverse group of characters face a chilling mix of supernatural and existential terror, exploring the hidden fears and social anxieties of our time.
“We’re thrilled to launch into the television space with the master of horror, John Carpenter,” says Christina Piovesan of Elevation Pictures. “Will and Michael bring deep experience in writing and showrunning, and we can’t be more excited for this creative team to bring the series to audiences.”
Carpenter last made the foray into television in the acclaimed 2005 series, Masters of Horror, directing two episodes (“Cigarette Burns” and “Pro-Life”).
John Carpenter Presents’ executive producers include Amo and Pascoe, John and wife Sandy King Carpenters’ Storm King Productions, and Elevation Pictures.
