We really want to trust the ‘Justice League’ trailer (Includes first-hand account)

With DC and Warner Bros. establishing a solid foothold in the comic book/superhero market, it was only a matter of time before they would release an Avengers-style team-up. Promotion for Zack Snyder‘s upcoming Justice League movie has been ramping up over the last week with new teasers and posters, but the big announcement was the first full-length trailer. With two-and-a-half minutes of footage, fans definitely have a better idea of what to expect from the November release.

So far, Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) are the only characters to have starred in movies outside of this one; although Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) will feature in her own standalone picture this June. Appearing to follow Bruce Wayne’s conversation with Diana Prince at Clark Kent’s funeral at the end of Batman v Superman, the pair is now recruiting superhumans to defend the Earth from a new threat. Thus, they introduce their three new teammates: Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Jason Mamoa), Barry Allen/The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Victor Stone/Cyborg (Ray Fisher) — though he actually remains nameless. Superman presents the most obvious absence from the trailer, though Lois Lane (Amy Adams) does make a brief appearance to remind viewers of his eventual involvement.

Even though the DC extended universe has not been known for its humour, there are a couple of very amusing moments in this first sneak peek – mostly because the younger newcomers are a little more energetic than their older counterparts. Getting into one of Bruce Wayne’s luxury cars, Barry asks, “What’s your superpower again?” to which he artfully responds, “I’m rich.” Moreover, Aquaman looks to be having the time of his life and is definitely going to be a notable, if not dominant, presence in the film. While previous glimpses of the sea-king have made him look dark and sombre, this preview of him and his queen, Mera (Amber Heard), creates even greater interest in his standalone movie due out in 2018.

There’s no sign of the film’s supervillain, Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), in the trailer, but he’s clearly brought an army of Parademons with him from Apokolips to assist in his quest for the mother boxes — both of which are visible in a scene featuring Dr. Silas Stone (Joe Morton), Victor’s father.

This trailer looks promising, but so has the previews for other DC movies so it’s probably best to still reserve judgement and keep expectations in check.

The old saying goes, “Do what you love, love what you do.” Having a passion for one’s occupation can make a job not feel like work. Conversely, sometimes enjoyment can be gained from being the best rather than fancying a particular vocation. Sometimes one just gravitates to a certain career because they have a natural talent for it. And sometimes it’s simply the most logical choice given the circumstances. In some ways, the protagonist in The Accountant checks all of these boxes.

Over the years there have been endless matches hypothesized between comic book characters, many of which have been played out in the panels. Where would the fight take place? What advantages would they have? And finally, who would win? Although Batman and Superman are on the same side of the fight against evil, they are fundamentally different types of heroes and have had many disagreements over the years. These conflicts have been worked out between the pages, but they’ve never been portrayed on the big screen — until now. With the proliferation of CGI effects and the popularity of superhero films, perhaps it’s the right time for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
